Mixed Doubles Final
Bridget Campbell & Simon Ahsan v Nicky Long & Lee Franklin
Umpire’s Match Report
Having warmed up in previous finals, all four players were ready for action, as the sun shone in the late afternoon.
Proceedings started quietly enough with the score going to 2-2, then Simon and Bridget broke serve in the 5th game and kept their noses in front to take the first set 6-4.
In the second set it looked like history repeating when Simon and Bridget broke serve early to lead 2-1, but this seemed to be the spur for Nicky and Lee to focus and they broke back and won the second set with a run of 3 games 6-3.
So once again, it would be a championship tie-break to decide the trophies, the level of tennis went up a further notch and there was little to pick between the pairs, but Simon and Bridget held their nerve to take the title by 11 points to 9.
The quality of tennis was a joy to watch, and the rallies were excellent battles of positioning and skill. It could have gone either way, but Bridget & Simon were deserving victors.
